Equine respiratory issues don’t always show up at rest, which is why we offer the MEDView Dynamic Scope.
Real-Time Assessment While Exercising
An advanced diagnostic tool that allows real-time evaluation of upper airway function, the MEDView Dynamic Scope is a portable endoscope system that attaches to the horse and records video of the airway while exercising. By evaluating airway function during exercise, we can identify hidden performance-limiting conditions and tailor treatment with greater precision for our equine patients.
Unlike a standard resting scope, it shows how the larynx and soft palate function when the horse is working at speed.

Clinical Signs & Considerations for a Dynamic Endoscopy
A dynamic endoscopy is especially useful if your horse makes abnormal breathing noises, has reduced performance, or tires quickly under saddle. Clinical signs that a horse may exhibit include the following.
Poor Performance
- Lack of stamina despite good fitness
- Sudden drop in performance
- Resist going forward at speed
- Inconsistent performance
Abnormal Respiratory Noise During Exercise
- Roaring
- Gurgling
- Whistling
- Intermittent abnormal noise at speed
Common Conditions
Conditions commonly diagnosed with a dynamic endoscopy that may only appear during exercise include:
- Intermittent dorsal displacement of the soft palate (DDSP)
- Laryngeal hemiplegia (“roaring”)
- Axial deviation of the aryepiglottic folds
- Dynamic pharyngeal wall collapse
- Dynamic laryngeal collapse
Consult with your equine veterinarian if you have any questions.
